Excel 2013: Create a new column using data from another column (Text to Columns).


Use text from an existing column to create a new column.

  • Select a column containing the text you want to separate.

  • From the Data tab, Data Tools group,
    Click: Text to Columns
    Select: Delimited file type
    Click: Next
    Select: The type of Delimiter you want to use
    (the Delimeter "Space" was used in our example)
    Click: Next
    Select: Column data format
    Choose: Destination for new columns
    Click: Finish

  • Rename: column headings

  • Size: column widths (if necessary)
